BANGKOK, May 10 (TNA) — Prolonged drought may cause damage worth 17.3 billion baht if it continues until July, Kasikorn Research Center said.
The center said that reserved water was low at dams and rain could be scarce in June and July.
The situation could worsen the trouble of farmers whose farm prices were low, especially when it came to rice and sugarcane prices, it said.
The center projected that farmers’ income could fall by 2.1-2.4%.
However, the center pointed out that drought impacts would be limited to some plants and areas. It estimated economic damage at about 1 billion baht a month during the extended drought period. Normally drought ended in May, it said. (TNA)
