BANGKOK, May 4 (TNA) — His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn may approve the list of 250 senators next Friday, two days after the Election Commission (EC) formally announce names of those elected in a general election held in late March.
Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam told journalists that presently the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) had already selected senators, dispatched earlier by the EC.
Now, the NCPO will ask those who are selected to become senators whether they have any objection, holding shares or possessing concessions in state-run projects, said Mr Wissanu.
Some of them do not wish to become senators and, therefore, names of those in the reserve list would automatically replace those who are left out, said Mr Wissanu.
He said Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, in his capacity as chairman of senator selection, has sent the list of 395 persons, nominated as senators, to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, also leader of NCPO, to consider. (TNA)
