BANGKOK, April 25 (TNA) – Thai Cabinet approved six-month extension of visa-on-arrival fee waiver for visitors from 21 countries until Oct 31 to boost the tourism industry.
The fee waiver was introduced in November last year and was scheduled to expire on April 30.
Nathporn Chatusripitak, a spokesman for Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, said that the exemption of the 2,000-baht fee from November 15, 2018 to March 31, 2019 saw an 80-per cent increase of foreign visitors, compared to the same period in the previous year.
The extension of the fee waiver will cause the state to lose 2.9 billion baht in revenue but it is projected to generate tourism income of about 104 billion baht during the six-month period when it is effective, he said.
Visa-on-arrival grants foreign visitors the period of stay not exceeding 15 days for the purpose of tourism only. (TNA)
