BANGKOK, April 15 (TNA) — The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) accepted His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s instruction and concern about losses from traffic accidents during the Songkran festival as its officials have impounded more than 3,000 vehicles from drunk drivers in the past four days.
Col Sirichan Ngathong, deputy NCPO spokesperson, said it was the great kind of His Majesty the King to express concern about the losses of life in traffic accidents during the Songkran holiday through Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
All departments of the NCPO and the government were ready to seriously follow His Majesty the King’s instruction on the issue. All officials including police, soldiers and administrators as well as volunteers were joining forces to facilitate traffic and ensure road safety at their best, Col Sirichan said.
She also said that on April 14 officials impounded 1,056 motorcycles from drunk drivers, and sent 25,960 motorcyclists to prosecution.
For passenger buses and private vehicles, officials seized 2,167 driver’s licenses from their drivers, impounded 345 vehicles and sent 16,671 people to prosecution.
From April 11 to 14, officials impounded 3,695 vehicles including 2,741 motorcycles from drunk drivers, seized 15,616 driver’s licenses, and took legal action on 69,985 motorcyclists and 3,954 drivers of passenger buses and private vehicles. (TNA)
