BANGKOK, April 1 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will visit the northern province of Chiang Mai on April 2 to discuss critical levels of smog in the region.
Gen Prayut was scheduled to meet governors of upper northern provinces and Tak province in the morning to consider smog and forest fire situations and solutions. Then he would return to Bangkok to attend a cabinet meeting at the Government House in the afternoon.
This morning, particulate matter 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter measured 127 micrograms per cubic meter of air in Chiang Mai. The safe threshold is at 50mcg. Besides, officials found as many as 615 hot spots in the province. Water was sprayed in a bid to alleviate the air pollution.
In Chiang Rai province, PM2.5 was at 273mcg. The managements of Chiang Rai Rajabhat University and Mae Fah Luang University in the provincial seat closed their classes until April 2 and arranged for rooms for students and personnel to take shelter instead of inhaling thick smog outdoors. (TNA)
