BANGKOK, March 21 (TNA) – Thailand expresses its
readiness to promote cybersecurity together with its partners in the Bay of
Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation
(BIMSTEC).
Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said
the government voiced the stance when senior security officials of BIMSTEC
member states called on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on the occasion of
attending the 3rd Annual Meeting of the BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs, which
focused on new threats to security including cybersecurity and security
cooperation.
The high-level officials thanked the prime minister for warm
welcome and also extended best wishes on the occasion of the prime minister’s
birthday. They wished Prayut would develop national security and stability, Lt
Gen Werachon said.
In response, the prime minister said security was
fundamental to economy, society and cultures and Thailand, as chair of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations, assured that Thailand and ASEAN would
cooperate on security efforts with BIMSTEC members. (TNA)
