AYUTTHAYA, March 18 (TNA) – Over 1,500 of Muay Thai
boxers from around the world have participated in the 15th World Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony
in the ancient city of Ayutthaya.
Muay Thai practitioners attended the event to pay respects
to their masters at the ceremony held in Ayutthaya Historical Park on Saturday and
Sunday.
The annual ceremony was co-organised by Ayutthya province,
the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Muay Thai associations to celebrate the
Muay Thai culture.
Over 1,500 Muay Thai practitioners from 69 countries took
part in the celebration inside the city recognised as the birthplace of the
martial art, TAT official said.
On Sunday, the event coincided with Nai Khanom Tom Day to
hail the legendary Ayutthaya-era and “Father of Muay Thai”.
The participants attended sacred rituals to pay respect to
Muay Thai masters, war dance saluting the teacher, Muay Thai matches and
performances by famous Muay Thai fighters.
The event also featured demonstrations and lessons of four
ancient Muay Thai styles –being Muay Chaiya, Muay Korat, Muay Tha Sao and Muay
Lop Buri. (TNA)
