CHIANG RAI, March 11 (TNA) – The haze situation in Chiang Rai is worrying and tends to worsen, particularly in Mae Sai district.
The PM2.5 particulate matter was reported outside the Mae Sai public health office at 114 microgrammes per cubic metre and PM10 at 140 microgramme per cubic metre
The dust particles in Mae Sai are the highest level in the northern region for the second consecutive day, turning the sky into groomy grey.
Smog from forest fires has also blanketed Chiang Mai provincial seat when visibility was below 100 metres on Monday morning.
The PM2.5 exceeded the safe standard at 50 microgrammes per cubic metre in many areas with 185 hotspots, reported in Chiang Mai.
A record high of 1,397 hotspots were detected in nine upper northern provinces. The most or 306 hotspots were found in Lampang provinces.
Forest fires and transboundary haze are blamed for a major cause of the air pollution in Thai North. (TNA)
