BANGKOK, March 4 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration started its campaign for the upcoming general election while about 900,000 people registered for early voting on March 17.
City clerk Silpasuay Raweesaengsoon presided over an event to launch the campaign in which about 1,200 BMA officials also vowed to be politically neutral for the March 24 polling, at the City Hall. Representatives of 50 Bangkok districts then started their campaign convoy.
Afterwards, the city clerk and other officials walked on inner Bangkok roads near the City Hall to campaign for voters’ turnout.
Offices of Bangkok districts also have their own campaign tactics. The Bang Khunthian district office has local students encourage their parents to vote. The Suan Luang district office has local taxi motorcyclists support its campaign in addition to officials’ marches. Other district offices use local communication networks to urge for voters’ turnout.
Besides, the BMA will open three polling units especially for elderly voters and voters with disabilities. They were set at Ban Bang Khae and Ban Bang Khae 2 homes for the elderly in Pasicharoen and Bang Khae districts and at the Veterans General Hospital in Phaya Thai district.
The city clerk said that preparation for the polling including the March 17 early voting date was 80% complete in Bangkok.
There were 4,498,336 eligible voters in Bangkok and about 900,000 of them registered for early voting, Mrs Silpasuay said. She expected an 80% turnout. (TNA)
