BANGKOK, March 1 (TNA) – Thailand’s inflation rate rose
0.73% in February from a year ago, increasing for the 20th straight month,
Commerce Ministry announced on Friday.
The Ministry’s Office of Trade Policy and Strategy Director-General Pimchanok
Vornkorporn said the inflation rate in February accelerated to the highest in
six months.
She pointed to higher prices of consumer goods stemming from
rising oil prices; food products and non-alcoholic beverages jumped 1.89
percent.
Ms. Pimchanok downplayed concerns over the rising inflation
as economy remained its growing trend with brighter prospect of consumer
spending.
The Ministry expected the annual inflation rate this year at
0.7-1.7 percent, on a similar range as last year, on the assumption of 3.5-4.5
percent GDP growth, she said.(TNA)
