BANGKOK, Feb 19 (TNA) — The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) expands its anti-global warming project to about 600 libraries in the country.
SET vice president Krisada Sektrakul said the “Library: Care the Bear” project with the Thai Library Association was aimed at encouraging the management of nationwide libraries to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases which caused global warming.
The project started in July last year. SET and its 33 partners had reduced the emissions of carbon dioxide by 1,472 tons, equivalent to growing 163,509 trees, he said. The project would be expanded to businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises, and communities.
Suwakhon Siriwongworawat, vice president of the Thai Library Association, said the association issued its green library standard to share knowledge about energy-saving and environmental conservation.
The Library: Care the Bear project played important roles in encouraging young people and the society to help fight against global warming. The project should be able to share the knowledge with about 600,000 people who used libraries yearly, he said. (TNA)
