BANGKOK, Feb 8 (TNA) – Bangkok schools are preparing to protect students if the air pollution returns next week.
Deputy Permanent-Secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Dr. Pichaya Nakwatchara on Thursday inspected implementation of dust control in Bangkok Noi district and installation of sprinklers at schools.
He said almost all of 437 schools under the BMA administration have been fitted with the water spraying system except five small schools. He ordered the schools to take good care of students.
As it is forecast that the capital will be hard hit by haze between Feb 13-15, he said schools will close immediately if ultrafine dust particles reach a harmful level.
The BMA also plans for schools to have special rooms with air purifiers to take care of small children during school closure, so their parents can go to work and pick them up in the afternoon.
The plan is expected to materialize by Feb 15. The pioneer project will be applied in some schools such as Prachaniwet School and Ban Bang Kapi School.
However, if the situation is not critical, there is no need to adopt this measure. (TNA)
