BANGKOK, Jan 31 (TNA) – All public buses, operated at Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) will convert to use B20 fuel by tomorrow in order to reduce PM2.5 emissions from vehicles, says BMTA acting director.
In cooperation with PTT Plc, the BMTA will use 200,000 litres of B20, blended with 20 percent palm-based biofuel daily. The new move will also help palm oil growers.
The BMTA director, Prayoon Chuaykaew said his agency has introduced the measure to use B20 in its 815 buses since Jan 15 this year.
All 2,075 BMTA city buses will use B20 by tomorrow (Feb1).
It also adopted other measures to reduce toxic exhaust fumes from the city buses such as smoke tests and more frequent engine maintenance and engine oil replacement.
According to the tests on aging trucks, the B20 diesel helps reduce black fumes emissions by half, said Energy Minister Siri Jirapongphan. (TNA)
