BANGKOK, Jan 25 (TNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand
(TAT) is gearing up a campaign against tourism-related waste at the domestic
tourism fair in Bangkok.
TAT is organising the 39th Thailand Tourism Festival 2019 at
Lumpini Park in the capital city between January 23 to 27, aiming to boost
domestic tourism industry.
Among several sections showcasing the kingdom’s landmarks,
cultural events and destination is an activity zone dedicated for waste
reduction under the TAT’s ‘Travel Thailand in Style, Reduce Plastic Waste’
initiative.
TAT Governor Yutthasak Suppasorn on Friday opened the zone
organised in collaboration with the Fishery Department and private enterprises,
TAT along with its partners has launched publicity campaigns
for responsible tourism urging tourists and tourism operators to cut back
plastic waste and single-use plastic.
The event displayed several items such as chair and clothes
made of recycled plastic waste that ended up in the ocean.
It is a part of activities to instill a sense of
environmental consciousness as well as responsible tourism by way of promoting
environment-friendly behaviors, TAT officials say.(TNA)
