BANGKOK, Jan 16 (TNA) – A task force is set up to
strictly enforce measures against industrial pollution emission in a bid to
tackle severe smog problem in Bangkok and its vicinity.
Industry Ministry’s permanent secretary Pasu Loharjun
announced the decision on Tuesday as Bangkok has suffered air pollution with
high level of PM2.5, or dust particles of 2.5 microns in diameter, for many
days.
Pasu said the new task force oversaw enforcement of
pollution control regulations to prevent hazardous ultra-fine dust from
industrial activities.
Thousands of factories, mines and concrete manufactures in
the country are subject to inspection under the new measure.
Weather patterns, a lack of wind and emissions from vehicles
and local industry have been blamed for hazardous dust levels.
Thai authorities have struggled to eliminate airborne
particulate matter that can have huge health effects. The government has instructed related
agencies to carry out efforts and inform people of the danger of ultrafine
particles.(TNA)
