NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Jan 9 (TNA) – A man was arrested for allegedly cutting down protected Phayung or Siamese Rosewood trees in the Thap Lan national park in Nakhon Ratchasima.
Banyut Sangjangreed was detained with three pushcarts, carrying four Phayung planks and three logs, worth almost one million baht in the forest, about 15 km. from the national park office.
The man is charged with cutting protected trees and sent to the Kuraburi police station.
Another suspect escaped the arrest and is still at large.
Phayung trees have been logged due to high demand abroad. The precious wood is used to make high quality furniture with beautiful wood patterns. (TNA)
