CHIANG MAI, Dec 25 (TNA) – Temperatures dropped 2-4 degrees Celsius on Doi Inthanon, the country’s highest mountain, which was blanketed with frost in early morning and thus attracted huge crowds of tourists.
The temperature on the top of the mountain in Chom Thong district fell to 6 degrees Celsius while the temperature at the Kew Mae Pan viewpoint fell by 4 degrees Celsius to 2. Despite the cold weather, a large number of tourists visited the mountain to witness sunrise and the blankets of fog.
The very low temperatures without wind resulted in frost on leaves along a three-kilometer section of a road to the mountaintop. Excited tourists could not stand pulling over and taking photos on their way to the frost-whitened peak of Doi Inthanon before sunlight melted it.
Kritsayam Kongsatree, chief of the Doi Inthanon National Park, said the continuously cold weather brought about frost on Doi Inthanon for three days in a row and more than 5,000 tourists visited the place yesterday alone. (TNA)
