BANGKOK, DEC 14 (TNA) – Former United Nations Secretary
General Ban Ki-moon has joined the official launch of Global Compact Network
Thailand (GCNT).
Ban told the GCNT launching in Bangkok on Thursday that he
praised Thai private sector for creating collaborative network as part of key
initiative of the United Nations. 
He stressed on human rights, labour rights, environment
protection and the fight against climate change as important principles for
business operation.
As guest of honour in the inaugural meeting Ban said
“By assembling leaders from the Thai private sector to form a Global
Compact local network, the critical work that you are undertaking to alight
your business with the ideals of the United Nations has my deep respect.”
“Our world is going through pronounced changes resulting in
elevated uncertainties and new risks. Keep working to make business a force for
good. Together, we can respond to the urgency of our global challenges and
construct a better tomorrow,” Ban said.
GCNT has been established to drive Thailand towards
sustainability goals by means of responsible business by upholding human
rights, labor standard, environment protection and anti-corruption.
Suphachai Chearavanont, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of
Charoen Pokphand Group, is the President of GCNT.
By the end of 2019, GCNT members are expected to increase
from the current 40 to 100 companies.(TNA)
