VIENTIANE, Dec 14 (TNA) – Thailand and Laos agree to develop concrete and comprehensive connectivity covering political, economic and social angles.
Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said the agreement came from the 3rd Joint Cabinet Retreat in the Lao capital. Both sides resolved to strengthen bilateral ties to realize mutual benefits for their citizens, he said.
According to him, the bilateral cooperation will include Thailand’s support for Laos to change from a land-locked country to a land-linked one with important roles as a power exporter.
Besides, both countries will formulate their joint development strategy to realize comprehensive cooperation. The strategy will reduce trade and investment obstacles and promote joint tourism and seamless connectivity.
In the cabinet retreat, both sides also agreed to ensure peace along their border for the sake of local residents, facilitate bilateral transport and base further cooperation on the good ties between their people.
In the meeting, the Thai prime minister promised support to improve a Thai-Lao route to promote the Chiang Mai-Vientiane economic corridor, repair and increase Thai-Lao friendship bridges and rehabilitate Attapeu province affected by a recent dam collapse. (TNA)
