KHON KAEN, Dec 12 (TNA) – The government plans to expand bioeconomy projects to the upper and central parts of the Northeast to develop the country into Southeast Asia’s bio hub, Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana said at a sugarcane growers’ association in the northeastern province.
The cabinet resolved on July 17 to promote bioeconomy from this year to 2027 to solve the oversupply and low prices of farm products. The resolution would lead to investment worth at least 190 billion baht in bioeconomy projects and participating farmers would raise their income by 85,000 baht annually each, the industry minister said.
The promotion will begin with sugarcane and focus on bioplastic, biochemical and biopharmaceutical projects. Under the promotion, Thailand would become a bio hub of Southeast Asia within 2027, he said.
The government would expand bioeconomy projects from the Eastern Economic Corridor to the Northeast, Mr Uttama said. (TNA)
