BANGKOK, Dec 3 (TNA) – The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security organized an event to mark the International Day of Person with Disabilities in a bid to support them to earn a living.
Social Development and Human Security Minister Anantaporn Kanjanarat presided over the opening of the event today at the Government Complex grounds on Chaeng Watthana Road in Laksi district.
This year’s theme is empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality. The minister said that on this occasion the ministry and its network have arranged the activities to support them to get jobs. Currently, two million physically challenged people of working age have registered for the government’s welfare. Out of this number, only 200,000 are being employed.
The ministry will work to ensure they get access to innovation for all, so they can live equally in the society.
During the two-day event, a seminar is held on working experience and employment of the physically-challenged. A workshop on making Thai desserts for selling is arranged by the Center for Empowerment and Vocational Development for Persons with Disabilities in Ubon Ratchathani.
Information about public and private organizations, which work for improving the quality of life of disabled people, is on display at the exhibition zone.
Food, handicraft items and products, made by the physically –challenged are available for selling at 150 booths. (TNA)
