TAK, Nov 21 (TNA) – The celebration of Loy Krathong festival in the northern province of Tak attracts a large number of local and foreign tourists with a unique way of creating a long line of krathong floats in the Ping River.
Thailand celebrates the ancient Loy Krathong Festival on a full moon night of the 12th month of the lunar calendar which this year falls on Thursday.
But festivities have been held throughout this week with beauty contests,traditional performances, light and sound shows before people release floats containing candles, flowers and incense sticks called krathong into waterways Thursday night.
In Tak province, a number of foreign tourists join the locals in the festival of Krathong Sai, that literally means line of Krathongs, Tuesday night.
Instead of releasing individual krathong, people of Tak release a thousand of krathongs made of coconut shells in to the river to form line of illuminating floats.
Each night since Sunday, communities created krathong sai in the River.
On Tuesday night, four communities put on their shows of Krathong sai incorporating folk dance and music. As their teams’ krathongs creating spectacular scene in the river, dancers and musicians performed on the riverbank.
This ancient Thai tradition has been passed down since Sukhothai Era, some 700 years ago, impressing the foreign visitors with the unique customs at a public park situated at Tak’s iconic suspension bridge. (TNA)
