BANGKOK, Nov 16 (TNA) — The chairman of the Election Commission (EC) has told foreign diplomats that the general election will be organised next year.
EC chairman Itthiporn Boonprakong sent the message in his meeting with diplomats from about 50 countries including European countries, the United States, Southeast Asian countries, Argentina and Russia.
In the meeting, he also introduced new election commissioners Santad Siri-anantpaibul, Tawatchai Terdpaotai and Chatchai Janpraisri. He also informed the meeting of the work and power of the EC, the selection of senators and preparation for the next general election.
He told the meeting that the election would be organised next year but he did not specify its date. He would call on another meeting with foreign diplomats after the law for the election of House representatives takes effect, expectedly in December or January.
Mr Itthiporn said that the EC would keep contact with the diplomats so that the international community would receive correct information about the election in Thailand. (TNA)
