NARATHIWAT, Nov 13 (TNA) – A Malaysian drug suspect has
jumped into the Sungai Kolok River bordering Thailand, prompting Thai and
Malaysian officials to jointly search for his body.
The 38-year-old suspect from Malaysia’s Kelantan state in
possession of illicit drugs was seen jumping into the river at 8.30pm on Monday
night.
While the Thai police were searching his bag and found
heroin and methamphetamine, the suspect jumped from a pier linking Thailand’s
Narathiwat and Malaysia’s Kelantan.
Rescuers and officers of both Thailand and Malaysia began
the search right away but they suspended the search after several hours.
They resumed the effort Tuesday morning with the help of
divers but there was no sign of the suspect, according to Sungai Kolok district
police.
Pol Col Supakorn Pungrot said the suspect had a Thai wife
who currently served a jail term for drug offenses at a prison in Narathiwat
province.
The joint team would continue to search for the body and
provide humanitarian assistance to the suspect’s family, Pol Col Suparkorn
said.(TNA)
