BANGKOK, Nov 9 (TNA) – Flooding started to recede in two districts of Phrachuap Khiri Khan, says the Royal Irrigation Department (RID).
Heavy rainfall triggered flood in Bang Saphan and Bang Saphan Noi districts, prompting Bang Saphan Hospital to evacuate some patients last night.
Bang Saphan canal overflowed, affecting about 1,700 households.
The RID Deputy Director-General, Thaweesak Thanadechopol updated the current situation, saying that the flood situation has improved. Some parts of roads near the canal are under 10-40 cm. of water. Flood has receded on Phetchkasem highway, which is now passable to all vehicles.
However, low-lying areas in Bang Saphannoi district remain under water.
He said the floodwater has drained quickly from the canal into the Gulf of Thailand as it was earlier dredged to expand the waterway.
The RID has installed a water pump at Bang Saphan hospital and prepared three water pumps and a backhoe in case of an emergency.
Three backhoes were dispatched to collect wooden debris at the bridge to increase water flow in the Bang Saphan canal last night. Officials will keep monitoring the situation for more possible rainfall. (TNA)
