BANGKOK, Nov 2 (TNA) — A staff of the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) was arrested for allegedly selling guns via Facebook.
Police seized 15 guns and about 200 bullets from him.
Pol Lt Gen Sutthipong Wongpin, acting commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said Boonmee Onnom, 54, was arrested in a sting operation when plainclothes police were receiving an ordered gun at the GPO headquarters where the suspect worked.
Earlier police learned that Mr Boonmee was an administrator of a Facebook page of a gun makers’ club that presented locally made guns on Facebook and delivered products in mailed parcels.
After the sting operation, police found 15 guns, about 200 bullets, gun parts, and tools for gun production and modification in the suspect’s vehicle and house in Nonthaburi province.
The arrest was part of Bangkok police’s anti-crime campaign in the past month. Pol Lt Gen Sutthipong said that in the campaign, police arrested 3,517 narcotic suspects including 1,965 addicts, 782 gambling-related suspects, 121 illegal immigrants, and 558 prostitution suspects. Police also rounded up 684 beggars in the same period. (TNA)
