PATHUM THANI, Nov 2 (TNA) – The World Health Organization has certified the anti-HIV medicine, Efavirenz, of the Government Pharmaceutical Organization and consequently it can be available for 20 countries.
GPO chairman Sophon Mekthon said the WHO PQ certification was confirmed for the Efavirenz Tablets 600mg drug in August and Thailand was the first Southeast Asian nation to obtain the certification. Now international health organizations can order the medicine from Thailand.
Dr Sophon said that the Philippines ordered 300,000 tablets of the drug worth 50 million baht and Myanmar expressed interest in the purchase.
Deputy GPO managing director Mukdavan Prakobvaitayakit said the GPO was producing 42 million Efavirenz Tablets, which formed 2.5% of its total production capacity. A bottle of 30 tablets is retailed at 180 baht.
Besides, the GPO planned to develop its malaria and tuberculosis medications to meet the WHO PQ standard, she said. (TNA)
