AYUTTHAYA, Jan 12 — Twelve people sustained minor injuries from smoke inhalation following a massive fire at the APCB electronic parts factory in the Bang Pa-in industrial estate here.
The blaze took place at around noon Tuesday, on the fourth floor of a building storing chemicals and cleaning liquid and spread to nearby floors. The five-storey factory is located in Bang Pa-in district.
More than 50 firefighting engines and support vehicles nearly an hour to control the fire, said Udomsak Kawnuna, head of the Ayutthaya Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office.
He said the factory is a joint venture between Taiwan and Chinese firms which reported the estimated cost of the fire is 10 million baht.
Mr Udomsak said the injured were workers from nearby factories in the industrial estate.
“They were sent to the hospitals as they inhaled the smoke, causing them to vomit and nose irritation,” he said, adding that “All of them were allowed to go home after treatments.”
Udomsak said around 900 workers were working at the factory when the fire took place and they were all safely evacuated from the building
Meanwhile, Ayutthaya Governor Apichart Todilokvej ordered workers inside the industrial estate to end their shifts earlier than usual today.
He said he would also closely monitor impacts of the fire on nearby communities, as would evacuate all local villagers as soon as possible, if the smell of smokes and chemical substances were threatening. (MCOT online news)
