BANGKOK, Jan 30 — Academic and public sector representatives met under the auspices of Centre for ASEAN Studies, Thammasat University today to review the readiness and outlook of the ASEAN Community post-2015, aiming to gather information from both sectors on previous achievements and to receive opinion on how ASEAN should move forward post-2015.
Thammasat University ASEAN Studies Centre director Assoc Prof Prapas Thepchatree said that building the ASEAN Community is a long-term process which will not be finished in 2015.
The unversity's Centre for ASEAN Studies launched its event to review achievements of Thailand’s public sector and brainstorm ideas from academics on the way forward.
Prof Prapas said that the next challenges of ASEAN Community in its post 2015 period centre on how to revitalize ASEAN as a real, people-centered community while the ASEAN legislative and judicial mechanism should focus on the long term as ASEAN currently has only its governmental body.
The academic conference was held at Bangkok's Twin Tower Hotel with some 30 participants from academia and the public sector.
ASEAN is set to officially become a community at the end of 2015. (MCOT online news)
