CHIANG RAI, Jan 13 (TNA) – A group of street artists have earned praise and a reward from renowned Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat for their graffiti art on a wall near the iconic Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) in Chiang Rai province.
The graffiti mural, stretching over 25 meters, caught the eye of Chalermchai, the National Artist who designed and built Wat Rong Khun. He publicly sought out the three young artists to commend their work and offer them a reward.
This is the second year that Chalermchai has allowed street artists to express their creativity on the wall opposite the temple’s parking lot. Last year, three young men created a mural there. Earlier this year, they returned and added new graffiti, complete with signatures and a phone number.
Chalermchai was impressed by their improved skills and the quality of their work. He believes that providing recognition and encouragement will inspire young artists to create art in appropriate spaces, contributing positively to society and nurturing the next generation of artists.
The three artists – Nakorn Supaket, Krittiya Chaiyaplee and Sorawit Sisaed are freelance illustrators and graphic designers in their 30s. They explained that their intention was to create art that connected with Wat Rong Khun and the Year of the Snake (according to the Chinese zodiac). Their mural incorporates snake imagery in three distinct sections that flow together as a single piece. They aim for their art to serve the community and fulfill its purpose in society.
Chalermchai presented the three artists with a monetary reward as a gesture of encouragement. He also shared advice for aspiring artists, emphasizing the importance of creating beautiful and meaningful art, not simply spraying paint randomly. He stressed the need for dedication and perseverance on the path to becoming a successful artist.
Visitors to Chiang Rai can now view the street art created by the three young men. The recognition they have received is expected to inspire other young artists to pursue their artistic endeavors. -819 (TNA)
