BANGKOK, Nov 7 (TNA) – The Cyber Police have apprehended a man who posted defamatory and threatening messages against the Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.
The Anti-Online Scam Operation Center (AOC) hotline 1441 of the police found the individual’s posts on social media platform X, which were insulting and threatening, leading them to launch an investigation. One of the posts offered a reward for anyone who would kill the prime minister, accompanied by the prime minister’s image.
The police then gathered evidence and obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s house in Bangkok’s Thon Buri District.
Upon arrival at the location, they found the man identified as Mr. Bank, responsible for the posts. He accepted his wrongdoing, expressed remorse for his exaggerated remarks, and acknowledged that he had acted without proper judgment. The two insulting messages originated from his frustration with the political party he supported, he said.
He pledged to improve his behavior, saying that he would remain a passive news reader without making such insulting comments.
In terms of legal action, if anyone reports being a victim, Mr. Bank is ready to cooperate with the police and accept any charges for his actions, he said.
Preliminarily, the police have filed charges under Article 392 of the Criminal Code, which states that anyone who induces fear or panic in others through threats can be punished with up to one month in prison, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both. Legal proceedings will follow accordingly. (TNA)
