BANGKOK, June 13 (TNA) – Bangkok police adjusted the plan to act faster in coping with demonstrators in Din Daeng district this evening.
Pol Lt Gen Samran Nuanma, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said that police expected a demonstration to return to Din Daeng intersection this evening after it had resumed there on Saturday.
Intelligence officials anticipated a similar situation this evening and policemen would be deployed at the same degree. However, policemen would reach the demonstration area faster. Otherwise, traffic congestion in evening rush hours might delay police’s arrival at the demonstration venue, the Bangkok police chief said.
According to the commissioner, two policemen were injured after being hit with fired and thrown objects in Din Daeng area last night.
Yesterday police set up many checkpoints around inner Din Daeng district and there were small clashes with demonstrators. Police were withdrawn after being sure that there would not be any unrest incident.
Pol Lt Gen Samran said that situations remained under control and should not be so violent as those happening last year. (TNA)
