BANGKOK, Jan 11 (TNA) – The chief of the Department of Livestock Development expected results from tests for the African swine fever (ASF) in 2-3 days.
Sorawit Thaneeto, director-general of the department, said samples collected from pigs at farms, housing and slaughterhouses were sent for tests for ASF at the National Institute of Animal Health (NIAH).
Officials concerned collected 196 samples at six farms in Ratchaburi province on Jan 8 and 114 samples at four farms and two slaughterhouses in Nakhon Pathom on Jan 9.
The NIAH will announce the results of the tests in 2-3 days. If there is ASF, the department will declare animal epidemic zones and take strict action in compliance with the Animal Epidemics Act, Mr Sorawit said.
If pigs must be culled to control the disease, affected parties will receive compensation. Officials concerned will conduct surveillance at farms, slaughterhouses and pork and feed markets and restrict the transport of live pigs and boars and their carcasses.
The Department of Livestock Development would report its findings on the issue to the World Organisation for Animal Health without any concealment of information, Mr Sorawit said. (TNA)
