BANGKOK, Dec 27 (TNA) – The number of people infected with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is soaring with clusters in many provinces, according to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration.
CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirangson said there were 2,437 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, 3,845 patients fully recovered and were discharged from hospitals. New fatalities amounted to 18 and 34,436 patients remained at hospitals.
She also said that the number of Omicron cases soared from 205 last Friday to 514 today. Two-thirds of the cases were imported and the rest resulted from local infections.
She said that the Omicron cluster in Kalasin province expanded to six new cases in Udon Thani and four others in Lamphun province.
Dr. Apisamai said there was also another cluster of seven Omicron cases in Pattani province. They were in close contact with the haj pilgrims who returned from the Middle East. Another cluster was reported in Surin province and started from an infected arrival from Denmark.
The assistant CCSA spokesperson urged people to wear face masks. Two layers of face masks would ensure effective protection, she said. They are also recommended to get a COVID-19 booster vaccine. (TNA)
