UBON RATCHATHANI, Dec 27 (TNA) – The northeastern province recorded its first Omicron case, an Australian man who arrived on Dec 11 through the Test & Go entry program and met his girlfriend in Amnat Charoen province.
The Office of the 10th Public Health Region reported that the Australian man, 49, arrived from Australia and passed the Test & Go entry program without quarantine. He tested negative for COVID-19 after arrival.
He stayed in Bangkok for a period, then boarded a flight to Ubon Ratchathani and traveled on to Amnat Charoen to meet his girlfriend. He met 10 friends at the woman’s house and in Ubon Ratchathani.
He fell sick on Dec 21 and sought a test at a private hospital in Muang district of Ubon Ratchathani.
The test returned positive for COVID-19 and Omicron infection was confirmed on Dec 23. Ten people in close contact with him tested negative but were quarantined.
Twenty-three people on his flight were considered as having low risks of infection. Health officials in Ubon Ratchathani ordered them to observe their health conditions and called them to COVID-19 tests. (TNA)
