BANGKOK, Dec 20 (TNA) – The Food and Drug Administration approved the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer Co for children aged 5-11.
FDA secretary-general Dr. Paisarn Dunkum said the FDA endorsed the expanded use of the Comirnaty vaccine of Pfizer for the children who were 5-11 years old to protect them from COVID-19.
Earlier the company had received the FDA’s approval for the vaccine administration with people aged 12 and over. Later it sought permission for administration with children aged 5-11.
A dose for the younger vaccine recipients was reduced by one-third to 10 micrograms from a dose for people aged 12 years and more.
The approved administration for children is two doses of intramuscular injection that will be 21 days apart.
The Comirnaty vaccine is the first COVID-19 vaccine that the FDA approved for administration with children of the age range. (TNA)
