BANGKOK, Nov 11 (TNA) – The Labour Ministry will seek approval from the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) this Friday for the import of migrant workers and expects the import under memorandums of understanding (MOU) to start in 30 days.
Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin chaired a meeting to discuss the legal MOU-based labour import to solve the influx of illegal migrant workers after country reopening amid COVID-19 outbreaks.
The meeting acknowledged that employers needed over 400,000 migrant workers and the Labour Ministry will propose the labour import to CCSA this Friday.
The ministry expected to start the import in 30 days. It reserved 400,000-500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines for administration with imported migrant workers at the end of their quarantine.
Fully vaccinated migrant workers will be quarantined for seven days and those who received one jab or have not been vaccinated yet will be quarantined for 14 days.
During the quarantine, they will undergo two RT-PCR tests and their employers will pay the costs of the tests. (TNA)
