BANGKOK, Aug 13 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha urged people and concerned organizations to properly handle infectious waste to help control COVID-19.
Deputy government spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul said the prime minister ordered concerned organizations to publicize proper methods to handle infectious waste throughout the process until incineration.
People should know how to dispose of infectious garbage properly as recommended by the Public Health Ministry and concerned organizations must suitably collect infectious waste from hospitals, villages and community isolation centers, Ms Traisuree said.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration reported that the amount of infectious waste was growing in the capital. On Aug 10, it stood at 125,072 kilograms, consisting of 61,114 kilograms of ordinary infectious waste and 63,958 kilograms of COVID-infected garbage.
The government asked people to sort their garbage. Used face masks should be folded, fastened with their ear loops and put in tightly closed bags with messages reading infectious waste. The bags must be then dumped in orange bins for used face masks, Ms Traisuree said. (TNA)
