SURAT THANI, July 5 (TNA) – Authorities of Surat Thani province planned to reopen Koh Samui island to welcome tourists on July 15.
Surat Thani governor Wichawut Jinto held a meeting with concerned officials to discuss Koh Samui reopening in Koh Samui district today. They planned to implement the “Samui Plus Model” as the cabinet already allowed the southern province to reopen the island to receive tourists from July 15 on.
The Samui Plus Model covers the reopening of not only Koh Samui but also Koh Phangan and Koh Tao islands. Visitors and local people will be required to comply strictly with safety measures and local officials already had plans on medical treatment and the health screening of visitors who will arrive by air, sea and land.
Yesterday authorities in Phuket reopened “Lard-Yai” or Phuket Walking Street in Old Phuket Town. The street became lively amid strict health screening measures. Products, foods and beverages were available while visitors could also enjoy cultural performances and street music.
Thai and foreign tourists as well as local residents and workers crowded the Sunday’s walking street which had been closed since April. (TNA)
