SONGKHLA, June 21 (TNA) – The number of COVID-19 cases is rising in Songkhla province and they are linked to a cluster at an Islamic center of Yala province.
The number went up to 24 including 18 in Chana district alone.
The infected people returned from the Markaz Islamic center in Yala province. At least 70 Muslims who visited the center were identified and already quarantined.
Dr Uthitsak Hariratanakul, public health chief of Songkhla, said officials would know in a week if the infected people from the Markaz center in Yala had the South African variant of COVID-19. He also said all people in the cluster would be quickly identified for effective disease control.
On June 21, the Public Health Ministry reported 3,175 new COVID-19 cases in the country over the past 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 3,035 were among general people and 140 were prison inmates.
Since April 1, there have been 192,443 COVID-19 cases. Over the past 24 hours, 2,030 cases were diagnosed with full recovery and there were 29 new fatalities. (TNA)
