BANGKOK, June 17 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha vowed to reopen the country in 120 days for its good future.
The prime minister made the announcement via the Television Pool of Thailand at 6pm.
“I am well aware that my decision today involves risks because no matter how much we prepare prevention, when we reopen the country, infections can rise. However, we have evaluated the situation and considered people’s living. I think that it is time for us to face some risks if our careful consideration finds that the risks are acceptable,” Gen Prayut said.
“We cannot wait for this virus to disappear and we cannot wait for everyone to receive two doses of vaccines before reopening the country. What we must do is to learn how to live with it as we do with other diseases. We must put COVID under control so that people can resume making their living,” the prime minister said.
He also said the country was ahead of target in securing 105.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine for this year. The government plans to administer an average of 10 million shots of the vaccine each month.
The Public Health Ministry on Thursday reported 30 more Covid-19 fatalities and 3,129 new cases over the past 24 hours. Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been a total of 207,724 Covid-19 cases. The death toll is now 1,555. (TNA)
