SAMUT PRAKAN, May 24 (TNA) – The governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) ordered mass COVID-19 testing at all factories in the Bangpoo Industrial Estate after more than 300 workers there tested positive for the virus.
IEAT governor Veeris Ammarapala said that 369 workers at a factory in the Bangpoo Industrial Estate tested positive for COVID-19. The plant has stopped its operation since May 13 and its infected workers were admitted at local hospitals.
Their company offered tests on high-risk people, isolated them and had staff from Samut Prakan Hospital test all people in at-risk areas.
Mr Veeris said he ordered the management of the Bangpoo Industrial Estate to contact provincial authorities to arrange for mass testing at all factories in the estate and in nearby communities.
Since the third wave of Covid-19 infections began in early April, 938 workers at nationwide industrial estates tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Of them, 78 recovered and 860 were receiving treatment. (TNA)
