BANGKOK, April 26 (TNA) – The Nimibutr stadium in Bangkok has been turned into a reception center for new COVID-19 patients, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
Mr Anutin said that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports allowed the modification of the stadium so that it became a facility with 300 beds to admit the COVID-19 patients who had waited for hospital beds for a few days and had not been admitted to any hospital.
At the stadium, officials will find out whether infected people were in green, yellow or red categories.
Mr Anutin said that the problems of insufficient hospital beds in Bangkok were the responsibility of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Public Health Ministry was lending a helping hand.
He also said that there was a backlog of 400-500 COVID-19 patients waiting for hospital beds and the new reception center at the Nimibutr stadium assured that all patients were under doctors’ supervision.
Thailand reported 2,048 new coronavirus cases and eight new deaths on Monday, bringing the total number of infections to 57,508 and the fatalities to 148. (TNA)
