The historical Iranian New Year Festival, Nowruz, literally means “new day” in Farsi. It is marked annually on the 20th or 21st of March.
UNESCO has praised Nowruz as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. It can be compared to the Songkran Thai New Year festival.
Both festivals are well-known for their focus on promoting merit-making, the visiting of elderly relatives and the seeking of blessing. (TNA)
