BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) – Opposition parties planned to push for constitutional amendments in the next parliamentary session.
Opposition leader Sompong Amornwiwat said after a meeting of opposition parties that the opposition hoped a referendum bill would pass its second and third readings today so that a new bill for constitutional amendments could be filed during the next parliamentary session.
Mr Sompong said the opposition was disappointed with the past charter change bill that was rejected in the parliament yesterday. He blamed it on political tactics.
He demanded Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam take responsibility for the rejection. Both had told the parliament that constitutional amendments were a priority of the government, the opposition leader said.
“The opposition needs support from coalition parties and senators for constitutional amendments. Opposition parties will discuss the issue again next week,” Mr Sompong said. (TNA)
