BANGKOK, Jan 21 (TNA) – Representatives of the government filed a lese majeste complaint against Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit.
Suporn Attawong, vice minister of the Prime Minister’s Office, Tosapol Pengsom, a committee member at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Newin Chochaitip, vice minister of digital economy and society, filed the complaint with the Technology Crime Suppression Division, targeting Mr Thanathorn, head of the Progressive Movement group. In the complaint, Mr Thanathorn was also alleged for violating the Computer Crime Act.
The complaint responded to Mr Thanathorn’s live video clip via Facebook conveying his criticism on the government’s procurement of COVID-19 vaccine doses from Britain’s AstraZeneca Co via Siam Bioscience Co.
Mr Tosapol said Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punnakanta assigned them to collect evidence and file the complaint against Mr Thanathorn because his criticism affected the royal institution.
Mr Newin said that he would ask Facebook to remove Mr Thanathorn’s video clip and seek cooperation from the operators of social media to block distorted information. He also warned people not to share such content because that was considered as a criminal offence. (TNA)
