TAK, Jan 14 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul visited Mae Sot hospital in Tak to boost morale of medical personnel and healthcare workers, who have worked hard to treat Covid-19 patients, returning from Myanmar.
He gave protective suits, face masks and alcohol based hand sanitizing gel to the hospital, located in the border district.
He discussed with officials from related agencies in handle the mass return of Thais, working at casinos in Myawaddy. So far, four batches of 125 returnees have arrived.
Among the latest group of 50 people, who crossed the border back yesterday, 13 persons tested positive for Covid-19, raising the coronavirus cases at Mae Sot hospital to 65.
Initially, the local authorities have planned to set up a field hospital at a sports stadium in case the number of Covid-19 patients exceeds the hospital’s capacity.
About 1,400 Thais work and are struck at over ten casinos in Myawaddy. Myanmar’s heath officials have cooperated with Mae Sot hospital to test all Thais, considered as having high risks of COVID-19 infection. (TNA)
