BANGKOK, Nov 27 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha launched an electric ferry service in Phadung Krung Kasem canal and was thankful for the implementation of his government’s policy.
After traveling on an electric ferry from Hua Lamphong to Thewarat market, Gen Prayut said he was grateful that relevant organizations realized the electric ferry service in response to the government’s policy to reduce fine dust pollution.
He mentioned the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Transport Ministry and the Marine Department. He noted that people on wheelchairs could also travel on the new electric ferries.
To reduce pollution from vehicle emissions, the government was building electric railways and promoting the local production of Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesel, Gen Prayut said.
Seven electric ferries made from fiberglass were deployed in Phadung Krung Kasem canal for the new service. The ferries had solar panels on their roofs to generate electricity for their lighting and motors.
Each electric ferry can carry up to 30 passengers including a wheelchair user. Its top speed ranges from 10-15 kilometers an hour. The new boats are capable of turning around in narrow waterways. (TNA)
