BANGKOK, Nov 3 (TNA) – Former prime ministers Anand Panyarachun, Chavalit Yongchaiyudh and Abhisit Vejjajiva are ready to support the formation of a national reconciliation committee while the opposition has not completely turned down cooperation.
Parliament President Chuan Leekpai discussed the formation of the reconciliation committee as proposed by the King Prajadhipok’s Institute. The institute proposed two types of the panel for the government and members of the parliament to choose from.
After the discussion, Mr Chuan quoted opposition chief whip Sutin Klangsaeng as saying that the opposition did not rule out its participation in the reconciliation process but would wait for more details of the matter.
Mr Chuan admitted that he discussed the issue with three former prime ministers – Mr Anand, Gen Chavalit and Mr Abhisit, and they agreed with the formation of a reconciliation committee and would be cooperative on the matter.
Mr Sutin said representatives of the government, the opposition and senators agreed that the King Prajadhipok’s Institute would organize a round-table meeting next week to discuss the formation of a reconciliation committee and representatives of demonstrators and academics would participate in the discussion.
The participation was expected to ensure that demonstrators and academics would accept the reconciliation process. The round-table meeting would also address the organization of a reconciliation committee, Mr Sutin said. (TNA)
