NONTHABURI, Oct 19 (TNA) — The permanent secretary for public health has assured that staff of hospitals and clinics are ready to help flood victims at their facilities and disaster zones.
Dr Kiattiphum Wongrajit, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, said that as the Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain nationwide this week, he ordered provincial health officials and staff of hospitals in flood-prone areas to be ready to help disaster victims around the clock.
Health officials would take special care of bedridden patients, those confined to home, pregnant women, young children and elderly people. Patients would receive their medicines steadily and mobile medical units would meet patients until situations return to normal, he said.
Dr Kiattiphum also ordered health officials to protect their facilities from flooding in order to maintain public health services. Medical supplies and medicine would be moved to safe grounds. Their supplies, oxygen and fuel would be built up and power systems and generators must be well maintained, he said.
Recently floods affected Prapa community health center in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima and Nam Khok sub-district hospital in Muang district of Rayong. Both facilities have reopened. Since Oct 7, the Ministry of Public Health has delivered 19,500 sets of medicines to flood victims in Nakhon Ratchasima, Sa Kaeo, Trang, Satun, Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. (TNA)
